Ira Tannenbaum, the Assistant Commissioner for Public/Private Initiatives, New York City Office of Emergency Management is an experienced leader with contributions in the fields of emergency management, crisis communications, and business continuity.  He has a proven record of accomplishment in partnership development, coalition building and organizational outreach at local, national and international levels. Ira is a trusted advisor to senior management teams in developing private sector communications and resiliency programs and has experience in strategic implementation and management of citywide and regional disaster preparedness plans, as well as coalition building to achieve program objectives.

Ira has demonstrated collaboration and leadership abilities in guiding organizations through major crisis events. Since 2003 Ira has held various key positions at NYC Office of Emergency Management such as:

•Trained civilian volunteers for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program

•Led citywide planning for medical response, natural hazard mitigation and all-hazards preparedness

•Emergency Preparedness Specialist with the Health and Medical Unit; Chair of NYC Critical Infrastructure/Private Sector Working Group during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic

•Authored the Healthcare Facility component of the 2006 NYC Coastal Storm Plan to ensure continuity of care during the evacuation of 20,000 patients from 68 hospitals and 182 skilled nursing facilities

•OEM Lead for the New York State Department of Health initiative to improve emergency preparedness guidelines and updated evaluation criteria in healthcare facilities throughout New York City.
