New York City's variety of existing commercial office buildings present many challenges to providing fire safety at modern standards. A description of passive vs. active fire suppression systems will be used to provide perspective on what building owners and managers can do to provide and maintain the highest possible level of fire safety in their facilities.

Learning Objectives:
1. Basic understanding of common passive and active fire protection systems
2. Knowing what systems can be reasonably improved within your facility, and what systems are required to be upgraded retroactively.
3. How to best plan for fire protection system upgrades in advance 4. Understanding the importance of maintenance and testing.
