This lecture is intended to familiarize you with the duties and responsibilities of a Fire & Life Safety Director; a position originated in New York City to deal with the unique life safety issues in hi-rise buildings. Post-9-11, this position has evolved from only fire safety to include an all-hazards approach.

Key objectives include:

  • What a FSD does and how they make New York City hi-rise buildings the safest in the world
  • How the FSD assists the Building Manager to handle an inspection by the Bureau of Fire Prevention
  • How to comply with Fire Code requirements when life safety systems are out of service.
